Description
Bill open, mid-rattle. Belted kingfishers hold territories along water and patrol them on a circuit, calling as they go — a boundary stated out loud, over and over. The rattle is usually given in flight, which is why most people only ever hear a kingfisher going away from them. Caught here from a perch, with the mouth open.
