Description

The same adult bald eagle as the winter profile — but this time he turned his head and looked straight down the lens. There is nothing quite like being on the receiving end of it. The pale eye, the hooked yellow bill, the white head lit by low sun against a deep blue sky, and an expression that makes it very clear which of you is the apex predator.

That stare is not for show. A bald eagle’s vision is roughly four to eight times sharper than a human’s — it can pick a fish out of the water from a considerable height, and track movement at distances where we would see nothing at all. When an eagle looks at you, it is genuinely resolving detail you cannot.

He is also a survivor of one of the great conservation reversals in American history. By the early 1960s, DDT had thinned bald eagle eggshells until fewer than 500 nesting pairs remained in the entire lower 48 states. The chemical was banned, the law protected them, and the birds came all the way back — delisted in 2007. Every eagle photographed in Oregon today is a direct result of that decision.

This is a high-resolution digital download of the photograph, made in Oregon — yours to print for your home or office, set as a wallpaper, or simply keep.

What you’ll receive: a high-resolution JPEG, approximately 4096 × 4096 pixels — a true square, sharp enough to print at full photo quality up to about 13.5 × 13.5 inches at 300 DPI, and considerably larger for wall display. Delivered as an instant download the moment your order is complete.
