Macro Nature Photos

I enjoy finding the beauty in things overlooked. Macrophotography helps me to see things that I often miss without a lot of magnification. Here are some samples of my macro photos. I will be posting a lot of these during the Spring. Some of my favorite subjects are dragonflies, flowers, mushrooms, spiders, and much more.

Dragonflies

Dragonflies are on of my favorite insects to photograph. They are very colorful and full of detail. They are also fascinating creatures. They have been around since prehistoric times and have had time to develop some amazing features. Dragonflies have the ability to see almost 360 degrees. They also have the ability to see ultraviolet and polarized light.

Pumpkin Spider

These spiders build big webs and often are found in the fall. They are sometimes called a European Garden Spider or a Pumpkin spider. This one does look like a pumpkin with legs. I have been around these spiders all my life and they are harmless unless you are a bug.

Jumping Spiders

Here are some up-close shots of jumping spiders. They can jump unto 20 times their body length by suddenly changing the blood pressure in its legs. These little spiders are harmless unless you are a bug. They have the best vision of all spider species. They have four pairs of eyes. They also have very good memory. Jumping spiders don’t make webs, they track their prey. Keep these spiders around your garden for pest control.

Damsel Fly

This is a beautiful turquoise colored Damsel Fly. They are similar to Dragonflies but much smaller. They are good to have around your yard or garden since the prey on mosquitos and other bugs.
