Bushtits are one of the cutest birds on the planet. They are tiny birds that seem to never sit still. They are constantly on the move so it makes them difficult to photograph. They seem to always travel in groups and seem to move in one direction. I usually anticipate them by moving about 50 feet in front of the direction they are moving.
When the take a rest, they are usually lined up on a branch inside a bush. I’ve observed that when they sit on a branch to rest, they will often do this by facing opposite directions in tightly packed groups. In this configuration, they have a much better chance of being alerted if they see a predator.
There seems to be a healthy population of Bushtits in Portland. Here is a Gallery of my favorite Bushtit photos.
