An audio version of this story performed by Jonathan Swanson
The moon said to the sun, “Please don’t shine on me because I don’t like the way I look. I don’t want the whole world to see me like this. I have been hit by meteors and have so many craters and dark spots. I feel old!” The sun told the moon” I will grant your wish and not shine on you” The moon turned dark the world was sad because there was no more moonlight. After a while, the moon started getting cold and lonely. The moon missed the warmth of the sun. The moon said to the sun, “Forgive me, I am in need of your light but I don’t feel worthy because I am ugly!” The sun replied, “I shine on you because you are beautiful. You are so beautiful that hundreds of songs have been written about you. My light makes you perfect! I love you so much that I decided to burn for eternity to give you my light. From earth, people see you as a glowing beautiful jewel in the sky. You should shine bright knowing that you are loved. You are made beautiful by my light and you have a very special purpose” The moon said to the sun,” I finally understand, when I reflect your light I feel alive and full of joy. Your light removes my imperfections. Please forgive me! I beseech you to shine your light on me and I will reflect your loving light forever.” So the Sun resumed shining its light on the moon and the earth rejoiced for the beauty of the moonlight.
