Today was a beautiful day on the Willamette River. I launched my kayak near the Sellwood bridge and paddled about 1 mile to the Ross Island. I was able to photograph some beautiful birds including my first photo of a horned grebe. I was also lucky to find a pair of Kingfishers. Below are a few of my photographs from today’s session.

A Female Common Merganser

I was able to get very close to photograph this beautiful bird. I believe this bird is a trend setter for modern hair styles.

A Belted Kingfisher

These are very shy birds. I was able to get close enough on my kayak to get some photos of this elusive bird. I just learned today that the females have the rust colored stripe across their chest.

An Immature Horned Grebe

This is my first photo of a Horned Grebe. I could not help but to notice its beautiful red eyes.

A Bald Eagle

There is a pair of bald eagles nesting on Ross Island on the Willamette River. This is one of the Eagles that has a nest nearby. I often see it fishing near by its nest.

A Pair of Canada Geese

I shared some of my lunch with the pair of Canada geese. They posed for some photos in exchange.
