Rufous Hummingbird

Rufous Hummingbird
Selasphorus rufus

TinyUncommon in Portland; common on the coast

Small, orange, and spectacularly belligerent. It does pass through Portland —
mostly in spring — but it is vastly outnumbered by Anna's and easy to miss. These
photographs are from **Neskowin**, on the coast, where it is far more reliable.

Spring migration, March into May; largely gone by late summer Flowering shrubs and feeders; far more reliable on the coast than in the city Its call is recorded in the field guide
